Participants explore the history and variations of the technique of collage, from China and the invention of paper 2,000 years ago, up until the present day. In the final session of this workshop series, we will explore the figure of the everyday hero, each and every one of us, the hero who falls and rises up again, as conveyed in contemporary poetry and literature.
On the occasion of 2021, a landmark year for Greece, the creative embroidery workshop draws its inspiration from people whose actions and work changed the course of history and left an indelible mark upon our society. In previous workshops, we embroidered personalities from the realms of science, politics and the arts. Beginning from the materials and preparatory work required to get started with embroidery, we will move on to learning the basic techniques that we will use in order to complete our handiwork and initiate each participant into the creative world of embroidery.

The way hero figures are portrayed and the changes they undergo in contemporary poetry and literature will serve as our inspiration to discover the world of collage. Each month, participants explore the history and variations of the technique of collage, from China and the invention of paper 2,000 years ago, up until the present day. We will pay particular attention to the experimentations of Dada, Braque and Picasso, Pollock, and Wagenschi Mutu and Yinka Shonibare.
