A new collaboration model

"Construction work on the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center began in 2012. Internally we had dubbed the SNFCC the 'triple' project, since, apart from the new premises of the National Library of Greece (NLG) and the Greek National Opera (GNO), it also included a park, the Stavros Niarchos Park, covering an area of almost 200,000 square meters. This is a park that, with regards to the Cultural Center, is almost as important as the two institutions-pillars of our culture.

10 years later, the SNFCC is delivered, in its entirety, to the Greek State and its rightful owner, the Greek society. For all of us at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, SNFCC reflects the unlimited potential and ability of Greece, for which we will continue to strive.

There are many who speak of projects created through public-private partnerships. The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center is one of the world’s finest examples of such a project. The SNFCC can be a model of collaboration and effectiveness for the entire country."

Andreas C. Dracopoulos, SNF Co-President, 23/02/17

Symbol of a new era

“I am confident that if you stay the course, as hard as it has been, Greece will see brighter days. Because in this magnificent hall and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, this symbol of Greek culture and resilience, we are reminded that just as your strength and resolve have allowed you to overcome some great odds throughout your history, nothing can break the spirit of the Greek people.”

Barack Obama, former President of the United States of America, 16/11/16

Collaboration on how to maximize SNFCC's potential

"The new Board of Directors underlined its firm commitment to make the best use of and expand the opportunities offered by the SNFCC to Greek society, especially in the domains of culture and education, building on the great bequest of the SNF and continuing its close collaboration with it. This is, after all, the mandate of the new BoD by the Greek State."

Planning ahead

"The existence of a public Cultural Center where everyone has free access to a plethora of activities and events was the mandate we received both from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and the Greek State. It is also our main challenge: To create an open yet organized space which will exclude no one but will provide access to audiences that have been traditionally barred. SNFCC's next step is to enrich further our offering to the society."

Nikos Manolopoulos, Managing Director, Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.
