A Robot in the Park

Design-Implementation: Stem Education

Our first steps in the world of educational robotics!

We program the bee-bot robot, thus we learn to use algorithms and to work together to solve real-life problems. Using the specially designed for the SNFCC map, we develop our orientation skills, finding the shortest route and avoiding obstacles so as to reach our destination. With the bee-bot robot we will explore the Stavros Niarchos Park and then, we will be able to search for the real "treasure"!

Architects: Starting from scratch!

Design-Implementation:   Christina Tsinisizeli, Artist

Renzo Piano's designs for the SNFCC get mixed up, creating a new puzzle.

When the art of architecture becomes child’s play, young students discover the role of anidea, the different sizes, the importance of orientation, and the concept of form in architecture, playing and engaging with art in the light of Renzo Piano's designs for the SNFCC.

Getting to know how my body moves

Within the context of this program, students, using sports equipment and participating in 5 different games-stations, explore the basic characteristics of movement. They learn what happens to the body when we start walking, running, or even falling down or throwing and catching a ball. In addition, children will learn more about the concept of immobilization, falling, rhythm, twisting and rolling through balance exercises.

The sun is energy!

Design-Implementation: Stem Education

An educational program engaging participants with the laws of mathematics and physics related to the operation of a machine.

Using ordinary materials, children build a model powered by solar energy, decorating it as they please

SNFCC and 19 more letters!

Design-Implementation: Kalliopi Koutroumpi, museologist-museum educator

How many letters does the SNFCC have?

With Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center’s acronym as a starting point, children will discover SNFCC having the alphabet as their guide Through tactile observation and collaboration games, the students are guided through the SNFCC premises areasked to track down and collect words related to elements that’s made them an impression; in fact they become the SNFCC’s “letter-collectors” and collectively produce and compose their own SNFCC alphabet.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL , 3RD TO 6TH GRADE

To book a visit for the period through 21 December, 2018  online registration is required.

Design-Implementation: Very Young Contemporary Art

The aim of the project is to familiarize students with the SNFCC encouraging them to foster a personal relationship with its space, its landscape and its functions, through the development of their own magazine (fanzine).

After a brief introduction to fanzines and the most popular Greek and foreign editions, students, divided into groups, will be responsible for its editorship, photography direction, and illustration, and will become the protagonists of the fanzine.

The teams will tour the SNFCC, and create imaginary news or humorous narratives inspired by it. The fanzine has been designed and curated by visual artist and professor at the University of Thessaly, Alexandros Psychoulis.

Nature’s Power

Design-Implementation: Kalliopi Koutroumpi, museologist-museum educator

What is a Green Building and why do we say that SNFCC feeds on nature? Through research games, mathematical riddles, experiments and role-playing, children discover the innovation and basic function of the Energy Canopy, the Green roofs and the sprinkling tanks, as well as their role in SNFCC’s daily operation.

Sports Walks: Enhancing our agility

The program Sport Paths for Agility combines traditional field exercises with the use of technological equipment. The aim of the program is to engage students in a creative manner, with a focus on the development of their athletic and kinesthetic skills and the promotion of the culture of athletics.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

To book a visit for the period through 21 December, 2018  online registration is required.

At the threshold of Architecture

Design-Implementation: Christina Tsinisizeli

During this lab, junior and senior high school students have the chance to participate in a real construction model lab.

The main purpose of this lab consists of the student’s ability to familiarize with the main architectural concepts by giving form in their personal ideas regarding the model design. Through the inspiration provided by the Greek National Opera, the National Library of Greece, the canal and the Stavros Niarchos Park, students will be asked to experiment with the Architecture’s basic tools, such as building materials, design scales and the use of shapes, in order to learn how an idea could be transferred on paper (2D) or on a model (3D).

The climate is changing

Design: Dr. I. Koletsis, Dr. El. Galanaki, Physicists - Meteorologists, Research associates of the National Observatory of Athens.

In view of the weather station of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), students explore the human influence on the climate both globally and locally, having as a tool the experiment and the observation through VR glasses. Students also explore how the use of renewable energy sources has been evolved. This educational program aims to teach students the principles of bioclimatic design and how they find application both in the design and in the day-to-day operation of the SNFCC.

The world of energy and movement

Design-Implementation: STEM education

Why are the water, the sun, and the wind considered sources of energy? How can the orders for a machine's movement be given? Why do the Sun and the Moon move in the sky? Why do winds blow and how do rivers flow?

Nature, natural environment, machines, movement, solar energy, conversion of energy's form, means of mechanical energy's transmission, automations.

Students are called to approach the above, creating their own mechanical constructions, simulating real machines.

SCHOOL WALKS

School groups are welcome to enjoy their walk at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC).

Students can visit the Stavros Niarchos Park, the Canal, the Agora and the Lighthouse (as long as their visit does not coincide with other events).

Also note that school excursions to the SNFCC hide surprises! Find below information about the creative activities* that you'll come across during your school walk at the SNFCC:

Monday and Thursday

Impromptu choir for kids in primary school, in collaboration with the educational and community programs of the Greek National Opera.

Tuesday and Thursday

African Drum Circle

Design- Implementation: Quilombo Lab

Wednesday and Friday
