Original artistic propositions, creators of the younger generation and unexpected musical encounters are featured in this year’s Music Escapades, as we launch the summer’s program of concerts at the Panoramic Steps of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.
Greek hip hop becomes a women’s affair with two dynamic presences of the domestic scene: Thessaloniki-based EXPE, who effortlessly interchanges singing and rapping, and 28-year-old XARA, who moves from poetry to verse & chorus and back again. The new generation expresses its dreams and anxieties in rhyme at the Panoramic Steps. The concert, which is also the last of the series for this summer season, will begin with rising DJ Alexandra Pitsouni that represent the new wave in rap music.
EXPE is a multi-dimensional artist who combines rap, trap and trip hop in a unique way. To date, she has released three solo albums and several singles, which have established her as a force to be reckoned with in the world of hip hop. Her debut album, Laguna (2020), showcased her raw talent and attracted the core of her fan base. Her next two releases, PSTKN (2021) and Easy (2022), attested to her reputation as a musically versatile and innovative artist. She represents a new generation of artists who challenge the status quo. Her electrifying performances and imposing stage presence make her one of the most dynamic performers of the genre.
XARA is one of the most beloved female voices in the Greek hip hop scene and a very promising artist. She started out writing poems at a very young age, and a few years later she came into contact with the hip hop culture to realize that poetry can be born in other ways too. She wrote her first rap songs at the age of 14, and over the last two years her music has been becoming more and more popular, as she has entered the hip hop scene dynamically, with a powerful, intense beat, and verse about social issues. She is expected to release her first solo album later this year.
