Gandini Juggling: Smashed - Εικόνα

A mesmerizing mix of circus and theatre, inspired by the work of Pina Bausch: 80 apples, 9 performers, 4 crockery sets invite you to a tea party that you will never forget.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center presents Gandini Juggling company at the thrilling and award-winning sensation Smashed for only one and unique show on March, 4. A sensational mix of skills and theatricality inspired by the work of Pina Bausch. A series of nostalgic filmic scenes exploring conflict, tense relationships, and lost love at a quaint afternoon tea, highlighting the other aspect of juggling.

Smashed, combining traditional juggling and contemporary theatrical circus, dives into the relationships between seven men and two women, with the musical accompaniment of popular melodies ranging from Tammy Wynette to Bach.

Created in 1992 by the famous juggler Sean Gandini and the sports champion Kati Ylä-Hokkala, the company has performed over 5,000 shows in 50 countries. Inspired by the work of the choreographer, Pina Bausch, director Sean Gandini and Kati Ylä-Hokkala have borrowed elements of her gestural choreography and combined them with the intricate patterns and cascades of solo and ensemble juggling. Simultaneously evoking great pleasure and small disquiet, Smashed lightly disrupts the rigid conventions of etiquette, dress and body language. The result is a new hybrid of juggling which is performed with meticulous unison and split-second timing.
