This Christmas, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center Membership Program and the  Educational and Social Activities of the Greek National Opera have ensured exclusive admissions (limited number of places) for the younger and teenager Members of the SNFCC Membership Program, in selected educational projects of GNO. Discover the magic of classical dance and animation, prompted by the “The Nutcracker” show, through two educational workshops.

MEET THE NUTCRACKER | Ballet Workshop for Teenagers 15-18 years old

For the second executive year, teenager Members will have the opportunity to get in touch with the magical world of classical dance, through a workshop held on the occasion of The Nutcracker performance, staged in a new choreography by the GNO Ballet Director, Konstantinos Rigos, which will take place at the GNO Stavros Niarchos Hall in the SNFCC (premiere 17/12).

“Meet the Nutcracker” workshop carried out in collaboration with the GNO Ballet and implemented by A’ dancers of the GNO Ballet team, aims to introduce one of the most popular ballet works in the classical repertoire, which continues to enchant young and old. In its original two-act form, choreographed by Lev Ivanov and libretto by Marius Petipa, for which Tchaikovsky composed the music, The Nutcracker premiered at the Mariinsky Imperial Theater in St. Petersburg on December 18, 1892.

STOP MOTION ANIMATION: THE NUTCRACKER | Workshop for students of 4th, 5th & 6th grade

During this experiential animation workshop, and with the help of Erling Erickson’s animation box and some easy tools and applications, students will tell us a short story in two or maybe three dimensions, just by using simple techniques (cut out animation, claymation, two-dimensional painting).

Inspired by The Nutcracker Ballet, participants will create a small stop motion animation under the guidance of the Olympia International Film Festival for Children & Youth team.

Workshop timing: 10:00 – 13:00

Age: 4th, 5th & 6th grade students

According to the latest measures to protect public health from the risk of spreading COVID-19, a valid vaccination certificate or a disease certificate, is required for the public to enter the event venue, as the venue operates as a pure venue. The above applies to adults. Μinors from 4 to 17 years old may, alternatively, submit a statement of negative self-diagnosis (self test) of the last twenty-four hours, a certificate of PCR (72 hours) or rapid (48 hours) diagnostic test,in accordance with the recent government measures.

The use of face mask and social distancing measures are mandatory in indoor and outdoor areas of the SNFCC, in accordance with Hellenic National Public Health Organization regulations.

A parallel identity check will be carried out on the persons who show the required certificates, as provided by law.

Due to public health measures, there may be changes regarding either the staging of the event, or the maximum number of participants.
