Συζήτηση: Αυτισμός, η πορεία προς την ανάπτυξη - Εικόνα

On the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day on Saturday, April 2, 2022, the Sports Excellence program, operating under the scientific oversight of the 1st Department of Orthopedic Surgery of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Medical School, in cooperation with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), are presenting the informational discussion “Autism, the Path to Development,” at the Book Castle of the National Library of Greece at the SNFCC.

Pediatric disabilities affect children’s development well into their adult life. Many disabilities have a neurological basis and are commonly referred to as “neurodevelopmental” disorders, one of which is the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In line with children’s development, as well as with advancements in the field of special education, the complementary introduction of a new way of thinking is proposed in pediatric rehabilitation.

This mode of intervention includes a set of six “F‑words” aimed at encouraging people involved in pediatric rehabilitation to integrate these concepts in their daily work (at schools, rehabilitation centers, clinics) with children with disabilities and their families. The six “F‑words” include: FunctionFamilyFitnessFunFriends, and Future, all of which work together to promote the health and quality of life of children and their families, and ultimately the overall development of the individual.

Through the interactive discussion, participants will have the opportunity to find out more about how to integrate the aforementioned “F‑word” concept and material in pediatric rehabilitation, while also allowing for the implementation of these concepts and activities at institutions whose work will benefit children, parents, families, and professionals.
