On Monday, May 16th the Stavros Niarchos Foundation live broadcasted the 63rd regular assembly of the Special Advisory Committee of the Greek State with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) for the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC). 

The Committee, which convenes on a regular basis, has been formed in order to monitor the effective progress of the project and work towards its successful delivery to the Greek State, as well as towards the optimal future operation of the SNFCC.

The full program of “Metamorphosis: The SNFCC to the World” was announced during the assembly. The events will take place at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center from Thursday, June 23rd to Sunday, June 26th. These open events will include guided tours to the new premises of the Greek National Opera, and the National Library of Greece, as well as to the Stavros Niarchos Park, in addition to a rich program of athletic, educational, and cultural events with the participation of hundreds of Greek and international artists. Limor Tomer, General Manager of Concerts & Lectures at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, acts as the Events’ Performance Curator, while the internationally acclaimed, experimental artist Laurie Anderson will be the guest Artistic Director for the program. Additionally, Robert Storr, Dean of Yale School of Art, with curators Barbara London, Kalliopi Minioudaki and Francesca Pietropaolo will present the video art program during the events.

The Foundation continues to livestream the meetings of the Special Advisory Committee in order for the general public to stay informed on the progress of the project till now and have knowledge of the steps being taken in anticipation of the delivery to the Greek State, which will be in charge of its operation as the SNFCC’s future owner. These meetings promote the effective partnership and cooperation between all parties involved, and are considered particularly important for the future operation of the SNFCC, as they provide participants with the opportunity to be informed on the developments of the project, exchange opinions, and manage any issues that may arise regarding the project’s operation in a timely manner.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is the largest single gift of the SNF, totaling $831 million (€596 million). A Special Advisory Committee of the Greek State, which convenes on a regular basis, has been formed to monitor the effective progress of the project and work towards its successful delivery to the Greek State.

The Committee’s meetings are attended by the representatives of the SNF and the SNFCC, as well as by representatives of all the institutions and official bodies which are contributing to the implementation of the SNFCC and will have a key role in its future operation. These bodies include: 

- The Office of the Prime Minister

- The Ministry of Finance

- The Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs

- The Ministry of Culture and Sports

- The Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change

- The Municipality of Kallithea

- The Greek National Opera

- The National Library of Greece

Furthermore, the Committee’s meetings are attended by representatives of the Organization “Friends and Patrons of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center”, as well as representatives of the project’s management team and contractor. 

The Special Advisory Committee met for the first time on June 29, 2007 and has since carried out 62 meetings.
