19 December 2016

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) welcomes 2017 full of optimism, with a unique program of open events for the entire family.

The SNFCC’s festive events and decorated premises transform it into the ultimate Christmas destination for the entire family. From December 24 to January 2, Christmas readings for children and adults, unique circus shows/one-man circus, entertaining games and workshops and stand-up comedy shows will offer unforgettable experiences for everyone. On December 26, Eugene Trivizas will land in the SNFCC on his flying seahorse to share his amazing adventures and magical stories with all of us, while at the Kids Playpark (28/12), both children and adults will work together and have fun through participating in original activities.

Classical music will play a central role in SNFCC’s Christmas celebration, with melodies from different eras, from all around the world, taking us back in time. The dreamy classical sounds will be complemented by the Voyage Jazz Group (24/12) and the Drums & Voice Jazztronica Project / I. Doumanis, A. Toubanaki (30/12)  inviting us to enjoy different rhythms in a lively atmosphere.

The Arsakeio Children’s Choir (27/12) will sing traditional carols and beautiful Christmas hymns, while the Greek National Opera (GNO) will introduce us to the enchanting world of lyrical theater with a radiant Christmas Opera Gala (28/11).

Furthermore, the SNFCC’s holiday program includes favorite Christmas movies that will offer moments of laughter, adventure and nostalgia. Screenings start with How the Grinch stole Christmas (26/12), for both children and adults, and continue with the beloved classic musical White Christmas (29/12). In the last days of 2016, the SNFCC’s younger visitors will get acquainted with the lovable teddy bear Paddington (27/12), while the entire family will enjoy a rare screening of Fantasia (30/12), a landmark of contemporary cinema.

New Year’s Eve at the SNFCC

New Year’s Eve at the SNFCC starts with book readings, hosted by the National Library of Greece. Authors, actors and other artists select Christmas stories from around the world—from the NLG’s collection—and read them to “children” of all ages.

On December 31, the SNFCC visitors will enjoy a live broadcast of one of the world’s most renowned ensembles, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, which consists of some of the greatest musicians of our time while, on the first day of the year, they will welcome 2017 by enjoying the broadcast of the New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic, the global music event that will be broadcast in 90 countries around the world and is expected to be watched by more than 50 million viewers.

Moreover, through two captivating performances (31/12, 1/1), the multi-talented The 7 Fingers group will present a magnificent spectacle combining theater, circus, music, dance and acrobatics that will defy the boundaries of urban culture. Also, on the afternoon of January 1st, David Dimitri will present his One Man Circus Show, an innovative combination of acrobatics, music and dance performed by the Lord of the Wire (New York Times).

On the final night of 2016, at 23.00, the SNFCC welcomes the New Year with the ultimate New Year’s outdoors party, filled with music, dancing, treats, surprises and colorful fireworks, lighting up the Athenian sky. As part of the festive, New Year’s atmosphere, the special edition of the SNF RUN Running into the New Year  will be taking place(31/12, 23.40)  during the changing of the year and ending at the SNFCC to celebrate all together!
