April at the SNFCC - Εικόνα
27 March 2017

For the second month of spring, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) invites you to take part in public events and activities for all ages, and enjoy outdoor activities in the Stavros Niarchos Park.

Music, as in every month, continues to pour out all around the SNFCC. The popular Music Escapades strike again in April, with ‘90s Greek indie music performed by cult-status bands.

SNFCC has also set up exclusively for its visitors a range of Easter concerts, ranging from jazz to gospel and Holy Week hymns, designed to bring people together and reaffirm everything that unites us all.

Meanwhile, children and adults have fun and play together in Easter workshops.

Music inspires movement, and April’s Social Ballroom pays tribute to rock & roll. New events are introduced, including an African-dance workshop that takes the action outdoors to the Stavros Niarchos Park.

Already popular as well as new sporting activities will be hosted at the Park. Water sports return to the Canal now that scheduled maintenance has been completed.

And, SNFCC bikes are here to stay! Recently introduced, SNFCC rental bicycles offer fun and exercise for children and adults, and propose a greener lifestyle. To celebrate the launch of this new service, a series of special activities promotes cycling culture in the city in April.

The opening of a major exhibition in the Lighthouse marks the month’s end: The Renzo Piano Building Workshop presents Piece by Piece, conceived by the Italian architect Renzo Piano as “a journey in space”.

April signals the transition of the Greek National Opera and the National Library of Greece to their new facilities, as the GNO enters trial operation and, alongside NLG’s exciting events, will complement the Stavros Niarchos Park and SNFCC events in spanning the entire spectrum of learning, culture, wellness and fun that the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center wishes to provide for each and every one.

This month, too, admission to all SNFCC sporting, educational and cultural events is free of charge thanks to the exclusive support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, offering visitors from Greece and all around the world the opportunity to join our activities.

Plan your visit

| Spring opening hours of the SNFCC are: Stavros Niarchos Park, Agora, Lighthouse, Running Track, Canal 06.00-00.00, Visitors Center 09.00-22.00. For the immediate convenience of visitors, canteens operate temporarily in the outdoors areas of the SNFCC. At a later time, a restaurant and café will operate on a permanent basis.

| Pets can enter all outdoor spaces only accompanied by their owner, who must keep them under their supervision at all times during their stay within the premises and clean up after them. Pets are not allowed at the Great Lawn, the Labyrinth and the children’s playgrounds.

| All playgrounds will start operating after the necessary permits have been secured. The necessary actions are already underway. Meanwhile, visitors will have direct access from the SNFCC to the playground of the Sports and Recreation Park of the Municipality of Kallithea, which is adjacent to the SNFCC. The Municipal Park was designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, architect of the SNFCC, and was completed with an exclusive grant by the SNF.

| Every Monday and Tuesday, the Great Lawn and every Wednesday and Thursday, the Labyrinth will not be accessible. The Stavros Niarchos Park is intended to reflect the rich diversity of indigenous Greek and Mediterranean plants, and to promote landscape qualities, seasonal changes and sustainable maintenance practices. Creating a healthy soil ecosystem in areas of lawn is one of the key points for healthy plants and viable growth. Resting periods are essential for a healthy and vigorous lawn. Thank you for your understanding!

| Based on the relevant Directive regarding the LEED Certification, which the SNFCC has received, smoking is prohibited in all indoors areas of the SNFCC, as well as within a distance of 8 m from all entrances. In all other open spaces of the SNFCC, smoking is not prohibited. However, respect for the environment and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle remain key values on which the SNFCC was conceived. In this context, we encourage visitors to enjoy the Park without smoking during their stay. If visitors wish to smoke, we kindly ask that they respect the space and use the floor ashtrays that have been placed in the area.
