34.000 visitors welcomed 2020 at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC). Hundreds of fireworks lit up the sky at midnight, creating a spectacular show. The Canal’s Dancing Fountains also welcomed the New Year with two new impressive choreographic sequences offering us an unforgettable spectacle following beloved tunes; traditional Greek carols from Ikaria and the famous “Dancing Queen” of ABBA.
Greetings and wishes for the New Year were addressed by SNF Board Member George Agouridis and SNFCC Managing Director Nikos Manolopoulos. Both the race and the events of SNFCC New Year’s Eve were presented by journalist Anna-Kynthia Bousdoukou, Managing Director of iMEdD and Executive Director of SNF DIALOGUES.
A few minutes after the turning of the year, the legendary British DJ and radio producer Eddie Piller set the tone for a big party transforming the SNFCC Agora to a huge dance floor!
Once again this year, runners took place in the New Year’s first race, SNF RUN: 2020 FIRST RUN, covering a distance of just 4 kilometers along the illuminated Canal and Esplanade, reaching Plateia Nerou and returning to the dream-like scenery of SNFCC. For the fourth consecutive year, the race was realized by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), and implemented by the nonprofit organization Regeneration & Progress. This year, the amount of 4.421,54, collected through runners’ symbolic participation fee, was tripled through an additional contribution from SNF. As a result, the total amount of 13.264,62 will be donated to this year’s partner nonprofits; Spring Children, Angels of Joy and the "Good Shepherd” Minors Protection Association of Piraeus.
All the events of the SNFCC New Year’s Eve were free thanks to an exclusive grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
