Slams by SNFCC Youth Council - Εικόνα

Drawing inspiration from the Science Slams that started in Germany in the early 2000s, the SNFCC Youth Council is organizing and curating a series of speeches and discussions that aim to highlight ideas, knowledge, experiences and, of course, the people behind them.

After the successful first Slam, which dealt with the issues of “disability & accessibility,” the second one will deal with the theme of Artificial Intelligence (AI). One need only do a brief web search to come up with words and phrases such as “AI language model,” “computing systems” and the well-known ChatGPT, but how easily can we explain what AI is and how it works? At the same time, we observe artists using artificial intelligence to create works, raising questions and debates about originality, creativity and, ultimately, the place of this medium in the field of culture. In addition to the technical or creative part of the issue, however, there are strong concerns about our rights within this digital shift, which may be happening at a much faster pace than we can grasp.

These are some of the topics that will concern our four speakers . Sparking dialogue being the main aim, each speech will be followed by a Q&A session with audience participation.

Speakers:
Panagiotis Koromilas, Ph.D student at UoA | Research Assistant at NCSR "DEMOKRITOS"
Orfeas Menis-Mastromichalakis, PhD candidate and researcher at the Artificial Intelligence and Learning Systems Laboratory of the National Technical University of Athens
