The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), in partnership with “Sports Excellence”, which operates under the scientific supervision of the 1st Orthopedic Clinic of the Medical school of Athens, is organizing a series of lectures on the COVID-10 pandemic. All the lectures will be broadcasted from the Book Castle via live streaming. The event is coordinated by the “Regeneration & Progress” NGO, and the program is realized thanks to a grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

Restrictive measures and social exclusion have severely impacted our emotions. The undefined but pervasive fear for our health, coupled with the financial distress brought on by the pandemic have had a profound effect on our mental and psychological wellbeing. More specifically, the young population is turning into a vulnerable group in terms of the psychosocial effects of the pandemic. In this talk, we will discuss which children and which families are most at risk, and whether there are factors that can enhance our resilience, as well as the neurobiological mechanisms that can contribute to that process. Furthermore, we will look at the impact of the pandemic on the incidence of violence, both within families and between young people. Finally, the speakers will share a powerful message on improving the quality of life for children and their families, potential outlets and recourses, and the way towards an optimistic future for our society.
