Panagiotis Rontos, “An Egyptian fisherman praying at the bow of his boat, at the Bay of Kavala, Thracian Sea, in northern Greece,” from Mola
Athens Photo World, true to its commitment to photographers and photojournalists living and working in Greece and Cyprus, organized the annual competition for the fifth consecutive year since 2019. The submission process ended on Sunday, November 26, with a significant number of talented up-and-coming and well-established photojournalists submitting important work — of 2023 and the past four years. The judges of this year’s committee, Panagiotis Pappas (photographer and Artistic Director of Photometria), Nikos Pilos (photographer and photojournalist) and Katia Christodoulou, evaluated the works submitted and selected the three finalists, who are (in alphabetical order):
- Antonios Pasvantis with his work The last community - Nikos Priporas with his work Westland, a photographic exploration of the western side of Thessaloniki - Panagiotis Rontos with his work Mola
The winner of this year’s Athens Photo World award and cash prize will be announced at a special event that will take place at the SNFCC Lighthouse. Louisa Gouliamaki (Photojournalist Reuters ) and Konstantinos Zilos (Freelance Photographer/ Photojournalist) will participate in the panel. The discussion will be moderated by journalist Evlambia Revi.
The event will be offered with simultaneous interpretation into the Greek Sign Language.
