On June 21, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), celebrating World Music Day, opens its doors to the public with a concert presented by Dionysis Savvopoulos and his colleagues, especially prepared for that Sunday and the brand new, fresh and green space that is the Stavros Niarchos Park.

Dionysis Savvopoulos, the sensitive poet and chronicler of Greek life, has prepared a unique concert with many of his timeless and contemplative songs, especially for the occasion and for the audience that will visit the Stavros Niarchos Park for the very first time, on the evening of June 21.

By his side, on this big celebration, he will have three leading virtuosos from Greece’s younger music scene: the orchestrator Orestis Plakidis (keyboards-programming), Yiotis Kiourtsoglou (bass) and Vangelis Karipis (percussion).

Also participating in the program:

The Orchestra of the Hellenic Navy, under the direction of Giorgos Tsilibaris.

The Choir of the Music School of Piraeus, under the artistic direction of Giorgos Kandreviotis.

The concert will be opened by the Underground Youth Orchestra, an orchestra of young music students, ages 10 to 22, conducted by its creator, Kostas Iliadis.

The blue of the sky and the sea, the new park in our city, Renzo Piano’s under construction buildings with their cranes, the children of the Choir of the Music School of Piraeus, the musicians of the Underground Youth Orchestra, the Navy Orchestra in all its splendor, and Dionysis Savvopoulos with his guitar, will compose a magical evening celebration of Music, Culture and of the city of Athens.

Dionysis Savvopoulos’ concert, will open the 4 days—and nights—of events, entitled “Light Up the Night at the Stavros Niarchos Park” which will take place from Sunday, June 21, through Wednesday, June 24, with the purpose of getting the general public acquainted with the area of the Park, but also with the SNFCC.

Technical support: Giannis Tountas (sound engineer), Nikos Rountos (stage sound), Periklis Mathielis (lighting design)
