Cats
Stavros Niarchos Park is home to several cats of all ages, whom you will probably encounter during your tour.
Their main area of residence are the flower beds over the Mediterranean Garden, and the Great Lawn, towards the Planted Roofs.
Due to their playful nature, you will often see them playing hide-and-seek among the bushes, doing parkour among the trees, and chasing cicadas and lizards.
They don’t like the water, so you will probably not see them anywhere near the fountains in the Canal!
Our interaction with cats
• Cats are animals that appreciate their peace and quiet. Moreover, not all of them are familiarized with human presence and contact.
• If a cat approaches us in a friendly way, we gently lower our hand to it and let it make the first contact, to see if it wants to be petted.
• If we come across young kittens, we refrain from touching them and do not move them from the place where we found them. If we do, their mother will not be able to find them and this is very dangerous for them, especially if they are still at the age of breastfeeding.
• Visitors should refrain from feeding cats and putting out food in various parts of the Park. Our Park conservation team makes sure to put out cat food in predetermined spots.
• If you spot an injured cat or kitten inside the Park, you may contact our team and we will see to its care.
