A new water installation at the SNFCC Canal - Εικόνα
03 June 2019

A new water installation will grace the Canal of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, thanks to the initiative and funding of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

Specifically, 59 vertical water jets in line with the architectural design by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, together with 10 swiveling fountains will be installed opposite to the SNFCC Agora, forming a powerful light, sound and water display that will captivate visitors both day and night: Special LED lights will be installed underwater, while the fountains can be also choreographed to music.

The fountains will coexist with Canal activities such as kayaking and sailing, as well as the winter ice rink and the stage set each June for SNF’s Summer Nostos Festival. In fact, the Canal Jets will debut during the Summer Nostos Festival organized by the SNF at the SNFCC between June 23-30, 2019. Part of the fountain installation will remain inactive during the Festival so that events can take place on the Canal Stage, a venue suspended over water. It will be in full effect, however, on July 14 during a special evening display accompanied by live music performed by the Greek National Opera Orchestra. After that, it will operate daily, and regularly scheduled water shows will be announced.

Water is one of the SNFCC’s key elements: From the seawater Canal mentally connecting the space to the sea nearby, to the Water Jets at the Stavros Niarchos Park that have already become one of kids’ favorite destinations.
