The SNF’s Board of Directors approved a new grant regarding the expansion of the successful “Journey to the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center” (SNFCC) program to include visits around Greece. The “Journey to the SNFCC” program was originally announced in November 2013 and its main goal is to allow the general public, and especially the younger generation, to get acquainted with the philosophy of the SNFCC, through a series of interactive and open events. The program is funded exclusively by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. The first two phases of the program comprised of “Opera in a Suitcase” performances by the Greek National Opera (GNO) around Attica, film-making workshops, educational programs, readings by popular artists, public awareness campaigns concerning green spaces, debate contests, and organized guided tours to the SNFCC Visitors Center.

The “Journey to the SNFCC” program will travel to 23 cities around Greece, including Chania, Agios Nikolaos, Iraklio, Thessaloniki, Veria, Larissa, Volos, Kastoria, Grevena, Agrinio , Nafpaktos, Livadia, Lamia, Corfu, Preveza, Ioannina, Konitsa, Korinthos, Tripoli, Alexandroupolis, Drama, Kalamata, Sparti.

The program’s third phase will consist of a new GNO production in an “Opera in a suitcase” format, a shortened version of Georges Bizet’s renowned opera “Carmen”, and the educational program “Collecting Experiences”, which is already successfully implemented at the SNFCC Visitors Center within the framework of organized school visits, which take place on a daily basis.
