The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, receives the prestigious Green Roof Leadership Award 2018 at the 5th International Green Roof Congress, held in Kuwait, on February 17-18.
The Green Roof Leadership Award IGRA is an international recognition of outstanding architectural examples of planted gardens and green roofs iniatives from around the world, and is a special distinction of SNFCC's Stavros Niarchos Park.
The award was received by Elpidophoros Pappas, Deputy COO of the SNFCC and Deborah Nevins and Helli Pangalou, the Park's designers that were awarded for the their contemporary approach to design and the implementation of innovative systems combined with the use of indigenous Mediterranean plants. The award that coincides with the one year anniversary from the delivery of the SNFCC by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation to the Greek State, and, by extension, to the Greek society, further underlined the commitment of the SNFCC to continue its establishment as an example of sustainability, across its design, construction and its daily operations.
Furthermore, in November 2017, the SNFCC was awarded by EUROSOLAR (European Union for Renewable Energy) on the Solar Architecture and Urban Design category as a powerful symbol of sustainability that highlights the potentials of renewable energy by setting new architectural standards.
Designed by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, the SNFCC is an environmentally sustainable, international cultural, educational and recreational urban complex that hosts the facilities of the National Library of Greece and the National Greek Opera, as well as the 210 acres Stavros Niarchos Park.
The design, construction and equipment of the SNFCC have been realized as part of the single largest donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
