“The SNFCC Students’ Agora in the Classroom: Social Empathy – Creating a Framework for Intergenerational Cooperation” for elementary school teachers.
Seminar Description:
More and more people live to be over 80 or 90 years old. More than half of today’s 10-year-olds are expected to live to be over 100 years old. Longevity is a new reality, which however requires individual and social preparation. More often than not, there are negative beliefs associated with the elderly. In a world where older people become more and more, social hindrances need to be lifted.
The objective of the workshop is to raise awareness among teachers and students (of the 5th and 6th grades) of the needs, potential, and difficulties faced by older people; to create a framework for intergenerational cooperation and cohabitation, and to foster empathy with regard to the needs of older people and the elimination of age stereotypes. Aging does not only concern the elderly. Intergenerational coexistence and cooperation are prerequisites for successfully managing the social challenges and inequalities arising from aging populations.
