Yako Trio is a band of young musicians in pursuit of a completely original and creative path: a jazz tribute to the great Greek music artist and composer Yannis Konstantinidis.
After studying jazz and gaining musical experience in various countries, these three musicians returned to their city, Thessaloniki, to embark on a fruitful dialogue with its distinctive soundscape and history. A multicultural affair, just like Yako Trio itself – a band that experiments with different music styles and cultures, breaking the boundaries between music genres.
Inspired by Yannis Konstantinidis’ legacy and the composer's use of familiar Greek folk music melodies and rhythms, the three artists revisit the Greek music heritage with a fresh and compelling approach. Combining traditional idioms and classical melodies with elements of contemporary jazz and improvisation, they propose unique covers of music by Konstantinidis and re-introduce it to audiences through their own sounds and experiences, while also performing original compositions in a distinctive ethnic-jazz style.
