A year after maestro José Antonio Abreu’s death, founder of El Sistema, the young students of El Sistema Greece share the stage of the Stavros Niarchos Hall with the experienced musicians of the ERT National Symphony Orchestra on Monday 1 April.
SNFCC welcomes the El Sistema Greece Youth Orchestra and the El Sistema Greece Youth Choir which join forces with the ERT National Symphony Orchestra and the Mixed Choir of Thessaloniki, in a Side by Side concert. Under the musical direction of Safira Antzus Ramos they all together prove that music is a collaborative process. The concert will include pieces by Purcell, Shostakovich, Piazzolla etc, and most importantly Ek Nekron, a piece by internationally acclaimed composer George-Emmanuel Lazaridis, which will be presented for the first time in Athens.
The music project El Sistema Greece (ESG) was founded in November 2016 in Athens, aiming to build a music community without discrimination and exclusion. ESG offers music classes to children and youth between 6-26 years old no matter their origin, nationality or religion. Children are not only inspired to strive for a better future, but thanks to music, they are given a platform for dialogue and togetherness across diverse communities. El Sistema Greece Youth Orchestra (ESGYO) was launched in November 2017. ESGYO is an educational orchestra offering a unique process of orchestral learning that every musician should acquire.
SNFCC and ERT show their support to El Sistema Greece through this concert. Ever since its opening, SNFCC has hosted ESG students several times and provided them with the unique opportunity to participate in high level music events, and to acquire valuable integrated music experiences.

The piece Ek Nekron was composed upon the request of the Cultural Center of the Region of Central Macedonia for the 100 year anniversary since the end of World War I.
