Parabases: Virginia Woolf - The Waves - Εικόνα

In December, Parabases, SNFCC Reader’s Theater, present Virginia Woolf’s masterpiece The Waves, with Lydia Fotopoulou and Christos Loulis transformed by Dimitris Karantzas’s staging.

Parabases revisit pioneering voices in literature, theater and poetry focusing on women. Women writers and poets who left their mark through their trailblazing work, as well as iconic fictional and dramatic female characters come alive in the Parabases literary salon under Dimitris Karantzas’s directorial gaze.

“I am afraid of you all. I am afraid of the shock of sensation that leaps upon me, because I cannot deal with it as you do – I cannot make one moment merge in the next. To me they are all violent, all separate; and if I fall under the shock of the leap of the moment you will be on me, tearing me to pieces.”

The Waves, Virginia Woolf

Virginia Woolf’s masterpiece The Waves is a torrent of thoughts, emotions, traumas and details of everyday life. The author closely observes the relationship of six characters from childhood to death, composing an elegy for nature by tracing an entire day from sunrise to sunset. A fragmental text on existence, death, friendship and love.

Virginia Woolf’s writing style is a prime example of the stream-of-conscioussness narrative mode, which captures thought and emotion in a state of flux, without a rational structure.

Lydia Fotopoulou and Christos Loulis are the voices of The Waves, in a regular alternation of roles.
