The National Library of Greece is proud to present ‘Sword in Hand’, an exhibition of drawings by Thanassis Makris and offers four unique guided tours with exclusive guests*, exclusively for the SNFCC Members.

The exhibition, which is part of the anniversary events organized by the NLG to commemorate the 200 years since the beginning of the Greek Revolution, will feature 111 drawings by Makris. In his work, the painter depicts faces and figures of Greek warriors and revolutionaries made in pastel, in ink, and coloured pencils. Initially, influenced by the stories told in his hometown, Kalamata.

Makris pays extra attention to depicting the warriors' expressions, stature, and clothing. His aim is to give form to the typical Greek warrior who fought for the liberation of their country and stands in front of the viewers, expecting for their approval and recognition. In this context Makris creates a series of drawings to honour Theofilos by depicting him as a warrior of the Greek War of Independence.

Through his drawings, Makris succeeds in giving life to the nameless, apprising crowd.
