Clean Monday at the SNFCC

Once again this year, we invite you to join us at SNFCC on Clean Monday to celebrate Koulouma, fly a kite, mark the end of the Carnival and welcome Lent and springtime!

Our hosts at this joyous celebration in the Park are Lambros Liavas and Takim – choosing songs and dances that showcase the diversity of Greek music, extending an open invitation for everyone to join in the traditional festivities.

Dancing around a pole and mimetic dances alternate with syrto, kalamatiano, kangeli, tsamiko, and other dances from Epirus, Thrace, Constantinople, Smyrna, the Aegean islands and the Pontus.

Our special guests at SNFCC are the “patriarch” of the clarinet, Petroloukas Chalkias, as well as singers Stavroula Daliani and Giannis Niarchos, the Pontic lyra player Ilias Avramidis, as well as musicians, singers and dancers from the Glyfada Horostasi Folk Music and Dance Club and the historic Argonaftai-Komnenoi Pontic Association of Kallithea.

Takim translate the Greek music legacy into fresh, contemporary sounds. They have worked with major Greek and international music artists, including Loreena McKennitt, Nana Mouskouri, Calexico, Eleni Karaindrou, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Haris Alexiou, George Dalaras, Dimitra Galani, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Evanthia Reboutsika. Six leading Greek demotic-music instrumentalists share the stage: Thomas Konstantinou (oud, laouto, vocals), Alexandros Arkadopoulos (clarinet), Giorgos Marinakis (violin), Panos Dimitrakopoulos (qanun), Kostas Meratakis (percussion), Giannis Plagiannakos (double bass).
