Jazz Chronicles resume in 2023 to inspire music explorations, with a view to jazz as a “music of the here and now,” with three new concerts stemming from different parts of the geography of contemporary jazz that will meet on the stage of the SNFCC Lighthouse.
Pianist and composer Costis Christodoulou, with a long-standing presence in the domestic jazz music scene and music studies in Greece and Finland, comes to the SNFCC with a special artistic essence that takes us on a journey to the core of music.
The Thing, Costis Christodoulou's band, performs mostly original compositions that are based on the tradition of swing and blues, borrowing elements from a nondescript Far East, and that sometimes translate as a minimalist landscape of meditation and sometimes as a sonic gathering, invested with a latent – but equally important – humorous mood.
Combining boogie-woogie with tea ceremonies, the Thing is in a constant search for joy and entertainment for the listeners, as well as for its musicians. The natural way of its musical phrases and the surreal marriage of rhythm and melody bring to the surface emotional experiences from the historic Jazz music scene of the 60s.
At the SNFCC, they will present pieces from their two albums, The Thing (2012) and Year of The Thing (2020), as well as unreleased tracks.
Featuring: Manos Theodosakis, cornet Kostas Konstantinou, bass Serafim Bellos, drums Sotiris Ntouvas, drums Takis Paterelis, tenor saxophone/flute Dimitris Tsakas, alto saxophone Costis Christodoulou, piano
