Jazz Chronicles: Katerina Polemi - Εικόνα

Exclusive seats for SNFCC Members

The Greek-Brazilian composer and performer in a special show created exclusively for the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at 21:00, live streamed from the Lighthouse.

On Saturday, October 24, Katerina Polemi, along with Petros Varthakouris (double bass, guitar) and Dimitris Papadopoulos (trumpet, flugelhorn), will present a special show at the Lighthouse, featuring distinctive moments from her award-winning scores for theater and cinema (Eurydice, The Great Chimera, Little England, Junkermann, Lysistrata), as well as selected tracks from her discography and adaptations of her favorite Greek and foreign songs.

Born in London, the composer and performer Katerina Polemi first appeared on the scene in 2011, with her debut album Spread the Music not the Name. The album received excellent reviews and Polemi began a long series of concerts in Greece, Brazil and America, from small jazz clubs to New York’s Carnegie Hall and the Symphony Hall in Boston. In 2013, she caused a stir with her original score for Pantelis Vouglaris’ film Little England; she has also written the music for numerous theater productions. Her latest work is the music for Odysseas Papaspiliotopoulos’ staging of Lysistrata, which was presented at Epidaurus this summer, as part of the Athens - Epidaurus Festival.

Having studied at the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, Katerina Polemi has created her own, distinctive sound, fusing the Greek and Brazilian tradition with elements of jazz and neo-folk. A collage of sounds from all over the world, distinguished by theatricality, spontaneity, and a love for improvisation.
