The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center participates for the 3rd consecutive year in the European Mobility Week taking place from 16th to 22nd of September, and aiming to develop a more active and sustainable way of living.
In 2018, within the framework of rewarding initiatives of sustainable mobility, the SNFCC was awarded the first prize by the Ministry of Environment & Energy in the category “Mobility Actions”. The SNFCC, from the first year of its operation, promotes sustainable mobility, by encouraging the cycling culture and the use of bike as a mean of transport, exercise and recreation.
European Mobility Week is an institution established in 2002 by the European Commission, aiming at promoting sustainable urban transport. It is realized every year from 16th to 22nd of September, intending to encourage city residents to choose sustainable modes of transport, such as walking or cycling.
As part of the European Mobility Week, the event “Bike license for kids” takes place at the SNFCC’s Visitors Center:
For the first time in Greece, the new initiative “Bike license for kids” is presented, supported by Greece’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. The event is of a symbolic nature and aims to highlight the importance of acquainting kids with the Highway Code, while raising awareness among parents about cycling.
The program includes theoretical and practical training, and a simple exam before obtaining the “Bike Riding License”. It is designed for children who already know how to ride a bike without training wheels and want to deepen their knowledge. Participants take part with their own bike!
