Sculptor or inventor? Art or Science? Can you have both at once?
In this workshop, we will use creative ways to show the participants how art can be combined with technology, and what we can create when an artist’s experimentations meet the ingenuity of a scientist.
Session #1: Contemporary monuments / Light
Inspired by the “Light Signals” sculptures in the Park and the sacred symbols we come across in Takis’ sculptures, we will discover the hieroglyphic script of ancient civilizations and create our own symbols. Using recyclable materials, we will transform the symbols into contemporary urban monuments, and activate them by means of light sources.
Session #2: Space flowers / Motion
We will draw inspiration from Takis’ metal “Flowers” and use cogs, fans and other metal accessories to create unusual flowers that could flourish on the planets of our galaxy. At the end of the workshop, we will transform our constructions into improvised kinetic sculptures, setting them in motion with the help of an electric motor.
Session #3 – Fantastical universe / Energy
Inspired by Takis’ “Spheres” installation, we will learn how the shape of the sphere comes to be, and why it is considered an age-old sacred symbol.
During the course of the workshop, we will engrave messages onto sheets of metal and use metalwork tools to form a fantastical universe of handmade spheres. We will incorporate magnets in the poles and watch our universe dance!
