“Tell me how you party and I'll tell you who you are” - Oskar Schlemmer (painter and Bauhaus teacher), 1929

To mark the centennial anniversary of the establishment of the Bauhaus School, the SNFCC invites you to discover the Bauhauslers’ parties. Workshops for the whole family and for adults, live DJ sets, a 100-step path from 1919 to 2019, and many more surprises await you at the Lighthouse.

The day culminates in a theme party at the Lighthouse, inspired by the 1929 Metallische Fest – the School’s last, and perhaps most celebrated party.

The invitation suggested that guests dress as bottle and tin can openers, or egg beaters. Metallic costumes using everything from tin foil to frying pans, guests dancing to the sound of bells, a chute and reflecting walls faced with white metal were some of the highlights of the 1929 event.

The Lighthouse party invites you to a firsthand experience of this era – disguise in full metallic style and dance to the DJ set by Blue Lagoon (Kormoranos), specially inspired for this event by the sounds of the Metallic party and featuring background screening of archival material from Bauhaus parties and life.

If you don’t already have a costume, you can always create one on site!

Moreover, as part of of the tribute to the Bauhaus parties, and in collaboration with Goethe-Institut, the video Triadisches Ballett by Oskar Schlemmer will be screened throughout the day at the SNFCC Lighthouse.

For O.Schlemmer, Bauhaus Stage was a field of experimentation on the relationship between body and space, aiming to bring together various and different art forms.

Oscar Schlemmer (1888-1943) was closely associated with the Bauhaus Stage, where he was Director from 1923 to 1929. Through Bauhaus dances and abstract geometric forms, O. Schlemmer immersed himself in the color, the sound, the movement, the light, the interaction between human body and space and as a result, the conditions of stage design. His most important and famous work is Triadisches Ballett (1922).

About Triadisches Ballett (Triadic Ballet)

Triadisches Ballett (Triadic Ballet) premiered in September 1922 with music composed by Paul Hindemith.

The work is based on the principle of the trinity. It has 3 acts, 3 dancers, 18 costumes and 12 dances. Each of the 8 scenes is marked by a different characteristic color and mood; yellow, pink and black.

Despite the fact that only costumes survive from the first presentation of this work, several attempts have been made for its revival.

One of the most important revivals dates back to 1970, choreographed by Margarete Hasting, with the contribution of two students of Oskar Schlemmer and his wife.
