The leaves of the rose - Domna Samiou and the Youth of Today - Εικόνα

The Domna Samiou Folk Music Association and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center present the Third Meeting of Youth Folk Ensembles, an event which completes the SNFCC’s themed events programming entitled Faces of the Hero which took place in celebration of the two-hundred-year anniversary since the beginning of the Greek Revolution of 1821.

Following the success of the previous two events, with the participation of more than 350 young musicians, the SNFCC will be filled with melodies and songs by 18 bands from all over Greece on the 16th and 17th of October.

Sometimes with performances that follow faithfully in the footsteps of the master singers and musicians of the past, and sometimes with a mood for experimentation, ingenious adaptations or even brand new compositions, the participating youth bands comprise an intriguing and multifaceted musical mosaic, representative of the colorful picture that is the Greek traditional music scene of today, and of the way local traditions interact with the traditions of neighboring nations, as well contemporary musical trends.

The artistic director is acclaimed instrumentalist Sokratis Sinopoulos, who was Domna Samiou’s close associate until the end of her life.
