Watch the event:
As part of Athens Pride 2021, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), in partnership with Athens Pride, is holding an open discussion on the importance of “coming out”.
“Coming out” is the expression used internationally for the moment an LGBTQ+ person shares their sexual orientation and/or gender identity with their close or wider social environment, i.e. their family, friends, colleagues, etc. The moment of coming out is critical in the life of LGBTQ+ persons and is the result of a series of internal and external processes. The aim of the discussion is to illustrate safe processes and practices, and to highlight the connection of coming out with the visibility of diverse identities and its significance as a political act, looking at how it may have a positive impact on the LGBTQ+ community as well as society at large.
Athens Pride supports actions that aim at the universal equality of all persons, advocating for rights and claims that are not limited to the dominant social model and traditional social structures.
Co-ordination: Marios Papadopoulos (Athens Pride)
Speakers: Alexandra Panagiotakopoulou (Colour Youth), Michail Odysseas Giakoumakis (Περήφανοι Γονείς), Alexandra Vasileiou (Orlando LGBT+)
