The Union of Journalists of Periodical and Electronic Press and the Research Unit for the Documentation and Study of the History of the Greek Press (ΕΤΜΙΕΤ) /Research Centre for Modern History (ΚΕΝΙ), Panteion University are co-organizing the 8th World Congress of the European Society for Periodical Research (ESPRit). The Conference will be hosted at the National Library of Greece, Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) on September 12-13, 2019.
Organised under the auspices of the international academic society ESPRit, it will host distinguished speakers from Greece and across Europe, the US and Japan.
For the first time in Greece, participants will address the impact of the periodical press, and in particular the relationship between images and the written word, on politics, gender, social attitudes, cultural formations and many other aspects of modern life.
The speakers represent a wide range of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, while a special session will also explore the global problem of misinformation and "fake news", and the dangers it poses for all democracies.
The conference is accompanied by a digital exhibition of Greek periodicals.
