In 1996, David Lipsky met David Foster Wallace for an interview on behalf of Rolling Stone magazine. One is a journalist and a wannabe writer: he has published some things but not what his vanity would require. The other is one of the greatest American writers of the past few decades, already a legend that year with the massive Infinite Jest. The film fictively records the five days they spent together, testifies to the envy of one for the ‘secret’ of perfect inspiration which the other possesses, and satirizes the punctilious adulation towards the artist who as an ordinary person may be miles away from the stereotypical intellectual.
