Soundscapes at SNFCC: Environment, 3D Printing, and Art
For students of 4th-6th grade, Middle School, and High School
How do the sounds of the environment affect our lives? How is acoustic ecology connected to environmental protection? How can 3D printing help us creatively translate the soundscape of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC)?
Children participate in an interdisciplinary workshop exploring acoustic ecology using tools from art, design thinking, and technology. Through a sound walk, we guide the children in active listening to the environment, deepening their understanding of the SNFCC’s soundscape through an original musical composition inspired by it. In the second part of the workshop, we explore the qualitative characteristics of sounds, translate them into graphic patterns, and create 3D-printed stamps from them. The workshop concludes with the creative use of the stamps to compose a collection of graphic scores.
The program aims to raise children’s environmental awareness using tools and techniques from art and technology.
