SNFCC FENCE: Wall Projections - Εικόνα

Following the large-scale group photography exhibition titled “SNFCC Fence”, which spanned across approximately 400 meters of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) perimeter, SNFCC Fence is reintroducing itself in the context of the Center’s 5-year anniversary celebrations, presenting the exhibition’s photos in a wall projection on the Esplanade wall.

The photographs, shot by amateur and professional photographers, capture moments at the SNFCC, at all times of the year, at different spots around the Stavros Niarchos Park, the Lighthouse, and the buildings of the National Library of Greece and the National Opera. 777 people from 12 countries responded to the open call launched in August 2019, submitting more than 2,300 photos.

The exhibition did not merely capture the SNFCC as a work of architecture, but also explored its relationship with the public, as each of these “interactions” revealed a different function and meaning of the site, as well as a different point of view. The SNFCC has already been recognized as a unique multifunctional destination, a fact that has also been captured in these photos: architectural landmark, cultural center, entertainment venue, sports site, metropolitan park.

A place that brings together and unites, instead of dividing or excluding. People of different ages, different origins, different backgrounds, and different interests, with or without disabilities, permanent or temporary residents of the city — all are and feel welcome at the SNFCC. Everyone can sense that they belong at the SNFCC and that the SNFCC belongs to them, thus essentially redefining the concept of public space in Greece and how citizens relate to it.

The exhibition was designed and staged in collaboration with New York-based United Photo Industries, modeled after the other “Fence” exhibitions the latter has organized in US cities such as New York, Denver and Atlanta, and it was carried out thanks to an exclusive grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
