Cosmos: ERT National Symphony Orchestra – Christmas with Music from Imperial Vienna - Εικόνα

On Monday, December 27, at 20.30, at the Stavros Niarchos Hall, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is presenting the ERT National Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of award-winning conductor George Petrou, in a sensational concert featuring iconic musical pieces of imperial Vienna.

The popular compositions of Johann Strauss II, and of all members of the Strauss family, are inextricably linked with the festive spirit of Christmas and the New Year.

Beloved melodies of waltzes and polkas whirl around in an intoxicating flurry, casting their spell on our imagination and senses, amidst a truly jubilant atmosphere.

The joyous days of Christmas and New Year’s Day are inseparably linked with the dazzling musical tunes of imperial Vienna. Much-loved waltzes, polkas, mazurkas, as well as excerpts from operettas, written by composers who lived and authored their work in 19th-century Vienna—the main representatives being the members of the Strauss family (father Johann Strauss I and sons Johann, Eduard and Josef)—promise to take us on a melodic journey to the Austrian capital. Exhilarating melodies that have been mesmerizing audiences for centuries and still comprise the essential ingredient for the creation of a warm and joyful holiday atmosphere.
