The Télésculptures are the first pieces in which the sculptor Takis introduces the element of magnetism and magnetic fields into his art. Opening up new horizons in sculpture, he then starts to explore, experiment with, and render visible, all of nature’s “invisible” forces, with a chief focus on magnetism.
As early as the late 1950s, Takis has begun creating works using materials that were previously characterized by only two dimensions. Thus, we see the Magnetic Relief, a two-dimensional wooden panel, acquiring a third dimension, while metallic geometric objects are hovering in space, “defying” gravity, as they are pulled by the magnets located on the panel.
