Discussing Disability: Technology and Sports Improve Quality of Life - Εικόνα

Watch the event:

On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Friday, December 3, 2021, the Sports Excellence program, operating under the scientific supervision of the 1st Department of Orthopedic Surgery of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Medical School, in co-operation with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), are presenting the discussion titled “Technology and Sports Improve Quality of Life” at the Book Castle of the National Library of Greece at SNFCC.

The life of people with a physical or mental disability, whether acquired or congenital, is marked by hardships that affect every aspect of their daily life. How can the advancement of technology and the application of new methods, both educational and medical, improve the quality of life of people with disabilities and their loved ones?

Furthermore, how can sports contribute to improving the quality of life of a disabled person? How can a disabled athlete reach all the way to the Paralympics, and what sort of physical and mental preparation does this entail?

During the event, distinguished scientists from various disciplines and guests analyze and discuss the importance of sports and new technological applications for different forms of disability.

After the end of the discussion, we follow the steps of the group "Jambol Of Love" and the dancers of Electra Venetsanou in a mixed choreography-surprise in the Agora, accompanied by music under the decorated trees of the SNFCC!
