Reading Club: Children's Book (7-9 years old) | The Librarian of Basra - Εικόνα

Ιn February, the Children’s Book Club for our young booklovers resumes facilitated by Sofianna Theofanous. Actress and writer Sofianna Theofanous has written operas and picture books for children, and has been honored with the Greek National Award for a Theatrical Play for Children and Teenagers for her play Merry Christmas, My Dear Charlie.

This month’s Reading Club will be discussing Justyna Bednarek's The Incredible Adventures of Ten Socks (Four Right Ones and Six Left Ones)

On Sunday, February 19, our young readers will meet to share impressions, feelings and thoughts, and to embark on an imaginary journey, sparked by the book of the month, into the fascinating worlds emerging from its pages.

The book

“Mum, I can’t find my other sock! Have you seen it?” Where could it be? I bet you too have wondered where in the world are socks that you can't find in the washing machine after doing the laundry! A timeless mystery for the entire family. Because you are not the only one who loses them; your mum and dad do too.

What would you say if you knew that your sock has gone away to discover the world, to become a pop star, or a politician?

In the book The Incredible Adventures of Ten Socks (Four Right Ones and Six Left Ones), Victoria and her mum are as bewildered as you. Imagine their surprise when they discover a hole underneath the washing machine. And thus begins their quest to solve the mystery.

This month, we will try to solve the mystery of our own lost socks, imagine where they set off to and what their new life is like.

Put on your craziest, looniest socks, and join us in exploring the new life of the ones you’ve lost.

Activities for children before the Book Club meeting

1. A key prerequisite is that you lose one sock. Join us wearing two different, mismatched socks! And, above all, make sure that are colorful and loony.
2. Imagine! Suddenly, a sock you’ve lost comes knocking on your door. She looks very tired, but happy. She sits on the couch and tells you her story, and you are so excited that you bring the sock along to share her story with us. What is she wearing? What is her voice like? Where has she been? What has she done? Is she singing? Painting? And, most importantly: What is her name?
