Ideas in the classroom: Online workshops for educators - Εικόνα

The SNFCC’s School Programs travel to the classroom and invite school teachers to learn, explore and try out innovative ideas and landmark concepts from the field of art, sustainability and public space.

Through short (40 min) online sessions for primary and secondary school teachers, we will present simple, small-scale activities for the classroom, and provide educational materials that participants can utilize in their classrooms after the session.

The sessions and educational materials are provided free of charge, thanks to a grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

The following programs are independent and not part of a workshops' series.

Sustainability in the Classroom: Recycling in class

What is the role of recycling in Climate change prevention and what did Ancient Greece have to do with recycling?

Why is kitchen roll not recycled? How do we distinguish which materials are recyclable? What are the guidelines we need to know about recycling? How many recycling bin types are there?

Teachers and students are invited to discover the secrets of recycling effectively, and apply them in their daily lives in order to prevent climate change in their own way. Students in the role of the researcher, discover, learn and record information about recycling, and develop their talents by creating recycled art from discarded materials.

Sustainability in the Classroom: Learning from Collections

What’s the connection between a pepper from our fridge, an origami pot, the 17th Century Paradox Collections and modern school?

In what ways can the historical development of museums make a school walk in a park have more fun, and an idea by Michael Foucault surprise us, during a school lesson? How could we understand material culture if museums, explanatory texts and tour guides disappeared, and what role could a hamburger package and a jar play in this work?

Teachers and students are invited to experiment in the classroom with non-formal educational tools and "enrich" their everyday lives with interdisciplinary activities and "green" ideas, on how to create new collections and learn through them.
