Football Days: Escape to Victory (1981) - Εικόνα

Football Days: A game for everyone

From the 24th to the 27th of September, the SNFCC transforms into a playing field to host a series of activities centred on one of the most popular sports: football. Visitors of all ages take part in training sessions and matches, learn tricks and techniques, join experiential games that promote the values of effort, respect and collaboration, and enjoy film projections at the Great Lawn: The Damned United (2009), Escape to Victory (1981) and Looking for Eric (2009). Three movies starring football legends, with Pelé and Eric Cantona among them, as well as Hollywood stars, such as Sir Michael Caine. Finally, through an open discussion on the topic “Sports: Children & Football”, participants will gain insight into the significance of football in child development.

The films that will be screened negotiate the terrain of football from entirely different angles. The dark side of behind-the-scenes training, the game in its most competitive and patriotically heartening dimension, and fanship that turns into fanaticism and requires… psychoanalysis (or, at least, life coaching)! Put on your trainers and come to the SNFCC’s Great Lawn for an unexpected cinematic triptych that… scores a goal!

Escape to Victory (1981)

World War II. Prisoners of the Allied Powers, under the guidance of a British footballer and former player for West Ham United, agree to take part in a game against a German team. The latter intend to use the game for reasons of propaganda, while the former realize that it’s a unique opportunity… to escape! The most famous football film of all time, in addition to its star-studded cast (Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine, Max von Sydow), also hosts a number of real-life football legends (Pelé, Bobby Moore, Osvaldo Ardiles, Kazimierz Deyna, Paul Van Himst, Mike Summerbee, Hallvar Thoresen, Werner Roth).
