Parklife: Takis Barberis, Petroloucas Chalkias - Εικόνα

Music returns to the Panoramic Steps of the SNFCC

The Parklife concert series returns to dress up the summer in music! In keeping with all the necessary protection measures, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center welcomes the audience at the Panoramic Steps, to a varied musical program with a view over the Stavros Niarchos Park.

Our first guests are two distinctive artists with a long musical career. On Saturday, June 5, at 21:00, the acclaimed jazz guitarist and composer Takis Barberis and the living legend of the clarinet Petroloucas Chalkias join forces in a concert that promises to be unforgettable. 26 years after their first official collaboration on Takis Barberis’ record Episodes, the two virtuosos will explore the many places where jazz and Greek traditional music meet. Two ostensibly incongruous musical genres that, nonetheless, bear many similarities in their scales, rhythms, and the intimacy of their improvisations.

A pioneer in fusing jazz with elements of musical traditions such as Greek, Indian, and blues-rock, Takis Barberis is now an acclaimed electric guitarist with a penchant for improvisation, as well as a multitalented composer.

The name of Petroloucas Chalkias is synonymous to the sound of the clarinet. Having learned to play the instrument at age 11, he now has over 75 years of live appearances and recordings under his belt, as one of the most popular performers on the Greek music scene.

At the concert that they will hold at the SNFCC, the two artists will be supported by three master musicians who have made a name for themselves both in Greece and abroad: pianist and keyboard player Manos Saridakis, tabla (an Indian percussion instrument) soloist Giannis Zannis, and double bass player George Georgiadis

For yet another year, the Parklife series of events holds many wonderful summer surprises for the friends of the SNFCC, bringing them entertainment while it quenches their thirst for live events.

The opportunity to attend the concert, in compliance with all necessary measures of safety in accordance with the Hellenic National Public Health Organization, will be given to a limited number of viewers, through advance booking online.
