On Wednesday, November 10, 2021, the Sports Excellence program, operating under the scientific supervision of the 1st Department of Orthopedic Surgery of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Medical School, in cooperation with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), present a discussion titled “All about the Marathon” at the SNFCC Lighthouse.

The preparation for participating in the classical marathon race has become a social phenomenon that is linked with the vision and history of the Olympic Games. What motivates athletes to partake? Do long-distance runs represent an essential way out of the tedious treadmill of everyday life, or are they yet another trending fad? Does sports science only concern the professional runner or also the amateur participant?

These and many more questions will be addressed by sports and health scientists, ultramarathon runners and other invited guests.
