2015: SNFCC RUN: Running into the Future
The “SNFCC RUN: Running into the Future” race took place on the third day of the four days—and nights—of events entitled “Light Up the Night at the Stavros Niarchos Park”. The race started at the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro), with the participation of 2016 runners, a symbolic number marking the landmark year of delivery of the SNFCC to the Greek State. The runners crossed a distance of 6 km through the center of Athens and Syngrou Av., finishing at the Stavros Niarchos Park and the SNFCC construction site.
This unique sports celebration, which connected the center of the city to the sea, started at sunset (precisely at 20:51). The main purpose of the event was to reward effort, participation and the finishing of all runners, as the event was of a non-competitive nature. Before the start of the race, all participants received the specially designed night gear, while, upon finishing, all participants were awarded commemorative medals.
The event was carried out in collaboration with the Hellenic Olympic Committee, celebrating Olympic Day, under the auspices of the Hellenic Police, with the assistance of EKAV (National Center of Emergency Help). The NGO “Regeneration & Progress” (Anagennisi & Proodos) was responsible for the organizing supervision of the race.
