On March 26, 2009, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and the Greek State signed the Grant Contract for the construction, equipment and management of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC). This Contract was ratified by Law 3785/2009 (Government Gazette 138/7.8.2009). After its completion, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center will be delivered as a gift the Greek State, which will have sole responsibility of the SNFCC, as specified in the Contract.
A Special Advisory Committee of the Greek State, which convenes on a regular basis, has been formed to monitor the effective progress of the project and work towards its successful delivery to the Greek State, as well as towards its optimal future operation.
These meetings promote the effective partnership and cooperation between all parties involved, and are considered particularly important for the future operation of the SNFCC, as they provide participants with the opportunity to be informed on the developments of the project, to exchange opinions, and to timely manage any issues that may arise regarding the project’s operation.
The Committee’s meetings are attended by the representatives of the SNF and the SNFCC, as well as by representatives of all the institutions and official bodies which are contributing to the implementation of the SNFCC and will have a key role in its future operation. These bodies include:
- The Office of the Prime Minister
- The Ministry of Finance
- The Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs
- The Ministry of Culture and Sports
- The Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change
- The Municipality of Kallithea
- The Greek National Opera
- The National Library of Greece
Furthermore, the Committee’s meetings are attended by representatives of the Organization “Friends and Patrons of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center”, as well as representatives of the project’s management team and contractor.
The Special Advisory Committee met for the first time on June 29, 2007 and, in this time, it has also met at the Maximus Megaron in the presence of the Prime Minister and the competent Ministers.
The first live broadcast of the Committee’s meeting took place in January 2016 via the website of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, with the aim of live streaming all subsequent meetings. The Foundation’s decision to make the Special Advisory Committee of the Greek State for the SNFCC meetings open to the public, via live streaming, stems from its commitment for the creation of a space that belongs to the Greek society and that promotes, as a whole, the value of transparency and the concept of accessibility.
